Hrabata ze Salmu byla velmi starým šlechtickým rodem pocházejícím z rodu hrabat z Lucemburku z rozvetvené rodiny Wigerichovcu. Od 11. do konce 16. století vládla hrabství Salm v dnešní Belgii a Alsasku-Lotrinsku. Rod se psal podle rodového hradu Vielsalm v belgických Ardenách. Koncem 12. století, poté, co Salmové získali statky v oblasti Vogéz, nechali tam založit nový hrad s rodovým jménem Salm. Po vymrení hlavní vetve rodu r. 1416, resp. 1600 prešlo hrabství i titul snatkem na další šlechtické dynastie.
