The small town of Birnam lies on the south bank of the River Tay in Perthshire and is linked with the neighbouring town of Dunkeld on the opposite side of the river. The Dunkeld & Birnam Historical Society set up a heritage walk in the area involving a series of blue plaques on sites of historic interest.

This blue plaque can be found near the entrance of the Tower Buildings, a distinctive building of Victorian gothic built in 1859, three years after the opening of the railway from Perth to Dunkeld, in a bid to attract tourists to the area.

The building occupies the acute junction of Perth Road and Station Road in the main route through the town. The plaque reads as follows:

'Tower Buildings

Built 1859 to provide shops and accommodation for summer visitors'
