The Frisco Highline wound through the picturesque Missouri Ozarks, connecting Springfield and Bolivar. Missouri's own Harry Truman took his private rail car up and down the Highline as a dry run for his "whistle stop" campaign in 1948. The railroad is now long gone but the trail, now owned and maintained by Ozark Greenways, remains. The trail crosses sixteen railroad bridges on the thirty-five mile course, and was designated a National Recreation Trail by the National Park Service and American Trails in 2004.
