EN: This traditional Saas valley wayside cross stands at the chapel of Zermeiggern about a kilometer south of Saas-Almagell. The cross, decorated with many objects, is around four meters high and undated.
This kind of wooden crosses is very typical for the Saas Valley and exists almost only here. The various elements all have their clearly defined meaning. Even their position is hardly ever varied.
DE: Dieses traditionelle Saastaler Wegkreuz steht in einer Ecke des Parks im Dorfzentrum von Saas-Almagell. Das mit vielen Gegenständen dekorierte Kreuz ist rund vier Meter hoch und nicht datiert.
Diese Art von Holzkreuzen ist ausgesprochen typisch für das Saastal und existiert fast nur hier. Die verschiedenen Elemente haben alle ihre klar definierte Bedeutung. Auch ihre Position wird kaum variiert.
