Lagar das Varas was a olive oil workshop, using traditional methods based in animal power. With time the system was reinforced with a water mill and water power started to be used in parallel to the older method.
A few decades ago the place was abandoned but fortunately in 2007 the municipality bought the place and in 2011 started renovation works which led to the museum which can now be visited by the public.
It's very interesting, specially because it's a guided visit... and all for free. The guide really knows about the subject and loves to chat with the visitors.
