This privy is made primarily of wood, with a slanted, corrugated metal roof. It's quite rickety, leaning a bit, with the door to the north section beginning to fall apart. It is divided into two sections, separated by a wall, although there are no signs for "Men" or "Women". Only the southern section has a modern seat. As always, bring your own roll, and be careful of any critters that have adopted the privy as their home. Please secure the doors when you leave, so they don't swing in the wind, causing further structural damage to the privy.
Location:
There is at least one visible burial from the late 1880s, but it wasn't until the 1890s that the cemetery began serious use, coinciding with the town's growth after settlement. Joseph Roff (buried here) and his Choctaw wife, David Anna Roff, settled in this area in 1883, and by 1890, there was a sizable community with a school and a post office. The railroad arrived in 1901, and the town took off, primarily as an agricultural community, but with some industry: The Mid-Continent Glass Sand Company is still operating in 2019. The Great Depression took its toll on Roff, with the First State Bank closing in 1934, and the railroad closing down passenger operations by 1960, but today, there are over seven hundred people living here.
