The former bank was erected in 1887-89 for the Australian Joint Stock Bank, replacing an earlier, 1864 building. in 1910 it became the Australian Bank of Commerce and the Rural Bank in 1934.
The Classical style building features square towers on the front corners with a deep verandah between. The facadehas elegant columns at the entrance to banking chamber.
