FR Le plateau d'Albion
Au Jurassique, sur une épaisseur de plus de 1 000 mètres se sont déposées alternativement des couches de calcaire, de marne et d'argile.

Le plateau est situé sur un substrat de couches de calcaires à faciès urgonien (Crétacé). Ce calcaire se présente selon un modelé karstique avec lapiaz, avens et dolines. Il est associé à des couches sédimentaires du Bédoulien et de calcarénites du Barrémien (Secondaire), recouvert par des colluvions et alluvions siliceuses et des argiles de décalcification du Quaternaire.

Ce plateau calcaire, percé d'avens, est un énorme bassin aquifère qui va de la montagne de Lure jusqu’au mont Ventoux. Les rivières souterraines du plateau alimentent une remarquable exsurgence : la fontaine de Vaucluse.

On a recensé plus de deux cents gouffres ou avens aux ouvertures parfois très étroites et difficilement repérables. Les plus profonds sont l'aven Jean Nouveau, avec son puits vertical de 168 mètres et l'aven Autran, qui dépassent les 600 m de profondeur. Le système aven des Neiges-Aubert-Trou Souffleur situé à Saint-Christol atteint le collecteur, la rivière d'Albion, a six cent vingt mètres de profondeur et la plongée d'un siphon à -878 m a permis d'atteindre de grands volumes noyés à -921 m

La sculpture
L'une des activités principale du village est d'héberger des spéléologues venus de tous pays pour explorer les très nombreux aven du plateau d'Albion.

EN The Albion plateau
In the Jurassic, over a thickness of more than 1,000 meters were deposited alternately layers of limestone, marl and clay.
The plateau is located on a substrate of limestone layers with an Uronian facet (Cretaceous). This limestone is presented according to a karstic model with lapiaz, plows and sinkholes. It is associated with sedimentary layers from the Bedoulian and calcarenites from the Barremian (Secondary), covered by siliceous colluviums and alluviums and decalcification clays from the Quaternary.
This limestone plateau, pierced with downstream, is an enormous aquifer basin which goes from the mountain of Lure to Mont Ventoux. The underground rivers of the plateau feed a remarkable exsurgence: the fountain of Vaucluse.
We have identified more than two hundred chasms or potholes with openings that are sometimes very narrow and difficult to spot. The deepest are Aven Jean Nouveau, with its vertical well of 168 meters and Aven Autran, which exceed 600 m deep. The aven des Neiges-Aubert-Trou Souffleur system located in Saint-Christol reaches the collector, the Albion river, at six hundred and twenty meters deep and the diving of a siphon at -878 m allowed me to reach large volumes. drowned at -921 m

One of the main activities of the village is to host speleologists from all countries to explore the many aven of the Albion plateau.
