FR On ignore presque tout de l'histoire de cette chapelle, sinon qu'elle est citée au XVIIème siècle et qu'elle a été restaurée au début du XVIIIème. Elle est pratiquement aveugle, sa seule ouverture étant constituée par la porte d'entrée, située sous un porche que surmonte le clocher-arcade.

Le 15 août de chaque année, une messe est célébrée dans l'édifice à la mémoire du curé Joseph Thouard (1825-1888), qui soignait les malades et avait mis au point un médicament. La renommée du "bon curé des abeilles", à la fois prêtre et médecin mais qui ne demandait pas d'honoraires, dépassa le cadre régional. Elle parvint même aux oreilles de l'empereur Napoléon III qui, dit-on, l'aurait consulté ... L'abbé Thouard repose aujourd'hui dans le petit cimetière implanté derrière l'édifice.

Egalement appelée - à tort - chapelle des Abeilles, cette charmante construction est implantée au bord de la D1 qui file plein ouest de Sault à Carpentras, au niveau du col des Abeilles. Sa dénomination n'a en fait rien à voir avec les insectes producteurs de miel : "abeïe" est le nom des troupeaux que les bergers regroupaient en ce lieu pour les faire bénir avant de partir en transhumance.

Le 5 juillet 1944, huit combattants de la Résistance de Cavaillon furent arrêtés par les nazis. Atrocement torturés, ils furent conduits près de la chapelle des Abeilles pour y être fusillés. Leur mémoire est honorée sur place par une stèle et un panneau explicatif.
EN Almost nothing is known about the history of this chapel, except that it is mentioned in the 17th century and that it was restored at the beginning of the 18th century. It is practically blind, its only opening being the entrance door, located under a porch that is surmounted by the bell-tower-archway.

Every year on August 15, a mass is celebrated in the building in memory of Father Joseph Thouard (1825-1888), who cared for the sick and developed a medicine. The fame of the "good priest of the bees", who was both a priest and a doctor, but who did not charge a fee, went beyond the region. It even reached the ears of Emperor Napoleon III, who is said to have consulted him ... Father Thouard rests today in the small cemetery behind the building.

On 5 July 1944, eight fighters of the Cavaillon Resistance were arrested by the Nazis. Shockingly tortured, they were taken near the Chapelle des Abeilles to be shot. Their memory is honoured on the spot by a stele and an explanatory panel.
