Hobart is s farming town with a population of about 3500, located on State Highway 9, two miles west of U.S. Highway 183 in southwestern Oklahoma. It was named after Garrett A. Hobart, Vice President from 1897-1899. It was established in 1901 when a land lottery divided the Kiowa-Comanche-Apache Reservation and that day a town of 2530 people came into being.
This is a beautiful building in a Spanish Mission style. It is one-story tan brick, with a basement. The roof is hipped and covered with terra cotta tile. The front porch is recessed with five tall arched openings. A six-step staircase spans the front of the building in front of all five openings. Windows are 12-over-12 double hung and are arched. The brick under the portico windows is laid diagonally. Beneath the roof line is a concrete belt course, above which are terra cotta tiles. A heavy concrete water table encircles the building between the first and basement levels. A two-story section extends from the rear of the building. The building was constructed with Treasury Department funding in 1931.
