"Samedi, en fin de matinée, les élus de tout le canton, membres, adhérents du comité de jumelage Bléré - Garrel et les Allemands en séjour dans le Blérois depuis jeudi soir étaient rassemblés pour inaugurer la nouvelle place composée d'emplacements de parkings et qui porte désormais le nom de Garrel, symbole fort de 46 ans d'amitié entre les deux villes jumelles.
Dans son discours, Évelyne Brédif, présidente du Comité de jumelage, soulignait les liens noués au cours de toutes ces années entre Allemands et Français et remerciait le maire pour son idée de consacrer une place au jumelage dans sa ville.
Deux rubans, un français et un allemand, ont été coupés par les maires des deux villes, Georges Fortier et Andréas Bartels et la présidente de la communauté de communes, Jocelyne Cochin, qui ont ensuite levé dévoilé la plaque.
Autre symbole d'amitié sur cette place, deux mains scellées en laiton sur un banc public sur lequel d'ailleurs chaque Allemand et Français a pris plaisir à se faire photographier pour mémoriser cet instant.
Tous étaient ensuite reçus à la mairie pour partager le verre de l'amitié en attendant de se retrouver en fin de journée pour une grande soirée de gala."

In her speech, Évelyne Brédif, Chair of the Twinning Committee, highlighted the links forged over the years between Germans and French and thanked the Mayor for his idea to devote a place to twinning in his city.
Two ribbons, one French and one German, were cut by the mayors of the two cities, Georges Fortier and Andréas Bartels and the president of the community of municipalities, Jocelyne Cochin, who then raised the plaque.
Another symbol of friendship on this square, two hands sealed in brass on a public bench on which every German and French person took pleasure in being photographed to remember this moment.
Everyone was then received at the town hall to share a glass of friendship while waiting to meet at the end of the day for a great gala evening."
