The Walgett Courthouse foundation stone was laid in mid 1877 but due to ongoing problems was not completed until 1880. The locally made brick couthouse replaced a wooden building completed in 1864. This building was soon inadequate both in size and construction .
The late Victorian Regency style courthouse consists of a high central courtroom flanked by single storey wings. A timber posted verandah colonnade surrounds the front of the building, which also has circular arched brick window openings, flat arched door openings and a corbelled brickwork pediment.
