Auntie Mame's Light Blue dress harkens back to the the 1950's when long dresses which accentuated the waist were "de rigueur". The evening gown she is wearing is grey with blue motifs. Light blue tulle fabric was sewed behind the dress to give it more expression. Her white hair is permed and she is wearing bracelets on both arms. Behind her is a three bulb light fixture on which a parakeet is perched. Two more resting on blue chairs behind her are keeping her company or waiting for a piece of fresh fruit. Auntie Mame is standing on a blue floor, and behind her are reliefs of abstract figures mounted on the wall.
Drew Mandigo created the first seventeen Downtown Rideau Mural Boxes installed in late 2016, from his Auntie Mame Series. Stunning in their originality, Drew’s works feature digital collages of ladies dressed in 1950’s and 60’s fashions, and are inspired by the spirit of the 1958 film of the same name. Several new pieces were released as part of the 2017 mural box expansion project, including one featuring a lady trapped in a glass dome, surrounded by butterflies, and a unique piece dubbed ‘the upside-down lady’.
