CZ: Bronzová plaketa na hrobe básníka a prekladatele Františka Kvapila (15. února 1855 Žhery u Ceského Brodu – 19. ríjna 1925 Praha) na Olšanských hrbitovech v Praze. Plaketa na náhrobku je dílem sochare Václava Hynka Macha (15.2.1882 - 24.3.1958).

František Kvapil byl ceský básník a prekladatel, predevším z tehdejší moderní polské literatury. Studoval filosofii v Praze a pozdeji v Paríži, už za svých studentských let se intenzivne venoval prekládání i tvorbe vlastní poezie. V letech 1880–1883 pracoval jako profesor na gymnáziích a ucitelských školách, poté se venoval výhradne literární a prekladatelské cinnosti. Publikoval také radu casopiseckých clánku o slovanských literaturách.
Jeho nejvýznamnejším dílem je mimo preklady z polštiny (zejména Kraszewski, Asnyk, rozsáhlá antologie Polská moderní poesie) a podrobné studie o slovanských literaturách cyklus epických básní Zpevy knížecí, v níž prepracovává v parnasistním stylu, napodobujícím predevším Victora Huga, ruské byliny. Dalším významným dílem je lyrická sbírka Zaváté stopy, vydal i nekolik dalších lyrických sbírek. Smerove príslušel k parnasismu. V puvodní poezii byl v mnohém pouhým epigonem Jaroslava Vrchlického, nicméne jako prekladatel a literární vedec byl ve své dobe velmi ocenován.

František Kvapil was a Czech poet and translator, mainly from contemporary Polish literature. He studied philosophy in Prague and later in Paris. He also published a number of journal articles on Slavonic literatures.
His most important works include translations from Polish (especially Kraszewski, Asnyk, extensive anthology of Polish modern poetry) and a detailed study of Slavic literatures a series of epic poems Singing Dukes, in which he reworked in parnasist style, imitating mainly Victor Hugo, Russian herbs. Another important work is the lyrical collection Zavaté stopy, and also published several other lyrical collections. Directed to parnasism. In his original poetry he was in many ways a mere epigone of Jaroslav Vrchlický, but as a translator and literary scientist he was highly appreciated at the time.
