This lady, wearing a fancy sleeveless cocktail dress, pointed high heel shoes and a bracelet on her left arm, is eagerly waiting for her hired vehicle to arrive to transport her to the Great Hall of the National Gallery of Canada to attend the long awaited Masquerade Ball, organized by the famous Louis de France agency. Already in the mood for partying, having already donned her black mask, she is trying to imagine how these extravaganzas were carried out during the heyday of the Bal Masqués, taking place at Versailles under the Sun King. As her limo came into view, she stepped out to the curb in front of her hotel's black and gold sign and, giggling to herself, entered the well appointed limousine.
Drew Mandigo created the first seventeen Downtown Rideau Mural Boxes installed in late 2016, from his Auntie Mame Series. Stunning in their originality, Drew’s works feature digital collages of ladies dressed in 1950’s and 60’s fashions, and are inspired by the spirit of the 1958 film of the same name. Several new pieces were released as part of the 2017 mural box expansion project, including one featuring a lady trapped in a glass dome, surrounded by butterflies, and a unique piece dubbed ‘the upside-down lady’.
