This exquisitely dressed lady is about to step in a limousine to be transported to the Governor General's Ball held at Rideau Hall. Given her splashy outfit, she will no doubt be the belle of the ball as they say. Standing in front of a flowery and bright orange background, she is standing straight, almost at attention. She is wearing a multicoloured skirt and jacket with hues of orange, black, red and yellow. Her buttoned jacket has folds on the right and falls to her waist. Wearing a large brimmed bamboo hat, we cannot help but notice a shimmering pair of gold drop earrings with emeralds. On the lapel of her sleeves are drawings that resemble folding fans.
Drew Mandigo created the first seventeen Downtown Rideau Mural Boxes installed in late 2016, from his Auntie Mame Series. Stunning in their originality, Drew’s works feature digital collages of ladies dressed in 1950’s and 60’s fashions, and are inspired by the spirit of the 1958 film of the same name. Several new pieces were released as part of the 2017 mural box expansion project, including one featuring a lady trapped in a glass dome, surrounded by butterflies, and a unique piece dubbed ‘the upside-down lady’.
