The Northern Pacific (NP) railway bridge across the Red River was completed in June of 1872. Railroad tracks were laid due west to Bismarck. The NP passenger depot was built in 1898 based on a design by Cass Gilbert. The depot had two huge fireplaces and a restaurant.

The building currently houses the offices of the Fargo Park District and has meeting room as well. The Park District building also houses a senior center.
