Arms raised in triumph in front of a flamboyance of flamingos, this lady is wearing a pink princess silhouette dress that is tight fitting at the top and waist. Wide strip of pink fabric, extending to her evening white gloves are draped over her arms to accentuate both her arms and shoulders. Her dress, hat and strips of fabric are bordered in red. Her wide brimmed pink hat serves to protect her from the effects of the sun. Immediately behind her are fanciful and abstract pink painted drawings.
Drew Mandigo created the first seventeen Downtown Rideau Mural Boxes installed in late 2016, from his Auntie Mame Series. Stunning in their originality, Drew’s works feature digital collages of ladies dressed in 1950’s and 60’s fashions, and are inspired by the spirit of the 1958 film of the same name. Several new pieces were released as part of the 2017 mural box expansion project, including one featuring a lady trapped in a glass dome, surrounded by butterflies, and a unique piece dubbed ‘the upside-down lady’.
