What we have here is an explosion of red roses and pink carnation and a lady standing in front of a rose bush while appearing to acknowledge a friend or saying good-bye to one. Some of the roses behind her have come together to form garlands. In furtherance of the pink and reddish colour scheme, the lady is wearing a pink and reddish skirt, a jacket with large buttons fitted at the waist and, a wide brim hat. A silvery silk scarf is wrapped around her right wrist while a bracelet can be observed on her left. Around her neck is a double strand white pearl necklace.
Drew Mandigo created the first seventeen Downtown Rideau Mural Boxes installed in late 2016, from his Auntie Mame Series. Stunning in their originality, Drew’s works feature digital collages of ladies dressed in 1950’s and 60’s fashions, and are inspired by the spirit of the 1958 film of the same name. Several new pieces were released as part of the 2017 mural box expansion project, including one featuring a lady trapped in a glass dome, surrounded by butterflies, and a unique piece dubbed ‘the upside-down lady’.
