" La construction de l'église a commencé en 1840, une mésentente entre paroissiens et évêque reportera les travaux de restructuration jusqu'en 1933.
Puis la paroisse fut laissée sans curé et ce n'est qu'en 1943 qu'à l'initiative du Père Retailleau fraîchement nommé, la construction de l'église Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul fut définitivement relancée, achevée en 1947 et bénie le 7 avril de la même année.
L'église Saints Pierre et Paul constitue un symbole de solidarité et d'implication de la population puisque les annales relatent qu'il a fallu 3500 journées de travail volontaire au chant des cantiques, un morne coupé sur 6 m de profondeur, 600 enveloppes destinées à recueillir les offrandes, 2000 sacs de ciments, manœuvres et scieurs de long volontaires, pour la réaliser.
Agrandie après le cyclone Hugo de 1989, adoptant un plan à nef unique rectangulaire avec des bas-côtés, dotée d'une charpente en “coque renversée“. Un toit en tôle et un coq gaulois coiffent le clocher. L’épouse du gouverneur de la Guadeloupe, Félix Eboué (1936-1938), aurait fait don à la paroisse d’une horloge de marque Tiffauges. "
