Informace o živote Panny Marie jsou velmi skromné. Zminuje se o ní pouze Nový zákon, v jiných dobových pramenech se Maria nevyskytuje. Podle dostupných pramenu je pravdepodobné, že se stala matkou ve velmi mladém veku. Samotný Nový zákon neposkytuje príliš dalších informací, které by se jejího života týkaly. Katolická a pravoslavná tradice stojí na ústním podání, svedectví církevních Otcu a výkladu Bible.
Nejstarší dochovaná barokní památka v Lounech pochází z roku 1673. Autorem morového sloupu je nejvýznamnejší rane barokní sochar pusobící v Cechách Jan Jirí Bendl. Sloup se puvodne pravdepodobne nacházel na Pražském predmestí, ale pri morové ráne, která postihla Louny v roce 1714, stál již na námestí. Latinský chronogram zní v prekladu takto: Matko boží, bud ochránkyní svých Loun. Sochu pozlatil v roce 1829 hrncír Mikuláš Rudl. Po vzniku republiky místní radikálové usilovali o odstranení údajného symbolu tmárství z námestí. Na Mariánském sloupu se nachází socha Panny Marie, znázornenou jako prostovlasou dívku s rukama na prsou, stojící na hadovi jako symbolu hríchu.

Information about the life of the Virgin Mary is very modest. It is only mentioned in the New Testament; in other sources, Maria is absent. According to available sources, it is likely that she became a mother at a very young age. The New Testament itself does not provide much more information about her life. The Catholic and Orthodox traditions are based on oral tradition, the testimony of the Church Fathers and the interpretation of the Bible.
The oldest preserved Baroque monument in Louny dates back to 1673. The plague column was designed by the most important early Baroque sculptor working in Bohemia, Jan Jirí Bendl. The column was probably originally located in the Prague suburb, but it was already on the square in the plague that struck Louny in 1714. The Latin chronogram reads: Mother of God, be the protector of your Louny. The statue was gilded in 1829 by potter Mikuláš Rudl. After the establishment of the republic, local radicals sought to remove the alleged symbol of obscurantism from the square. On the Marian Column there is a statue of the Virgin Mary, depicted as a bare-haired girl with her hands on her chest, standing on a snake as a symbol of sin.
