Minto Bridges
Designed by Robert Surtees, these
ornate bridges were built of lightweight
steel sections and cast iron by the
Dominion Bridge Company for the
Ottawa Improvement Commission.
Named for the fourth Earl of Minto,
Governor General of Canada, the
bridges were originally part of a
ceremonial route from Government
House to the Parliament buildings.

Conçus par Robert Surtees, ces ponts
très ornés ont été construits de poutrelles
légères de fer et d’acier par la Dominion
Bridge Company pour la Commission
d’Amélioration d’Ottawa. Nommés en
l’honneur du quatrième Earl of Minto,
Gouverneur Général du Canada, ils devaient
faire partie d’un parcours d’honneur
reliant la Résidence du Gouverneur Général
aux édifices du Parlement.
