"Dans un bâtiment de la Reconstruction, le musée des beaux-arts a ouvert ses portes en 1968, au cœur du centre-ville de Brest. Il s’est doté d’une collection originale de 10 000 objets, principalement tournée vers les beaux-arts (peintures, sculptures et arts graphiques) et volontiers associée à la vocation maritime de la ville.
Le musée présente cette année un accrochage inédit du parcours permanent, qui propose une lecture des collections par séquences chronologiques et thématiques. La partie introductive consacrée à Brest a été complétée par des œuvres graphiques illustrant la ville-arsenal. Des artistes comme Charles Lapicque ou Pierre Péron abordent le temps du renouveau.
Une nouvelle section met en lumière les artistes qui ont représenté la Bretagne entre terre et mer de 1850 à 1920 : l’occasion de présenter les œuvres de Jean-Julien Lemordant, Lucien Simon, Henri de Waroquier, Henri Le Fauconnier… Les cimaises font aussi place à l’orientalisme, aux artistes de l’art abstrait lyrique et aux œuvres de l’abstraction géométrique, tandis que les galeries du premier étage présentent la peinture italienne et française du XVIIe au XIXe siècle."
