Shell Grotto (Muschelgrotte in German) is one of the most popular postcard objects in historic Brandenburg, Germany.

Built in the early 1900, the fountain have been the central part of Marienberg Park in the center of the town of Brandenburg.

Originally, the fountain was adorned with real shells, donated by citizen. Unfortunately, the fountain had been vandalized several times. Thus, in 2015, the original shells have been replaced by silica copies.

We found two other postcards and were able to match them with one of our pictures.

One of them (bottom left) was taken in 1910, the other one (bottom right) is from 1916.

The biggest difference between the two pictures is the tower in the back. The old Bismarck Tower on top of the hill was demolished in 1974 and replaced by a modern look-out tower.
