Near the northwest end of Runway 13, on its North side, is a WELCOME TO NEW YORK sign that is visible on satellite images and when landing, taking off, and taxiing to and from the terminal.
The uppercase letters are in a single horizontal line of text. A red Big Apple is centered on the flat sign between the words “welcome” and “to”. A border of dashed lines surrounds the phrase. It’s lit up at night and the white letters glow purple.
The ground coordinates are from my window seat on a plane as we waited to take off.
