The gigantic stone sculpture by artist Victor Delfin was modeled on himself and his wife united in a passionate embrace. The couple is lying on a platform in the middle of a small pool with jets of water. The sculpture, 12 metres long and 3 metres high, was inaugurated in Parque del Amor on Valentine's Day 1993. This is one of the most photographed sites in Lima.

According to local accounts, the mayor of the district holds a contest for the couple who could sustain the longest kiss, and this sculpture celebrates this.

The park is supposedly inspired by Antoni Gaudí's Parc Guell in Barcelona. Since 2014 it was renamed Alberto Andrade Carmona Park, in honor of the late Lima mayor.
