"Place des Français Libres, près la station 6 Château, grandit L’arbre empathique, œuvre de l’architecte catalan écologiste Enric Ruiz Geli. Spectaculaire, il fait partie des sept nouvelles œuvres d’art, tickets compris, qui vont jalonner la première ligne du tramway. Déjà, les passants s’arrêtent pour le contempler. Entre le pont de Recouvrance, la mer, le jardin minéral, L’arbre empathique s’intègre parfaitement dans le paysage. Mi-métal, mi-végétale, c’est une sculpture haute de 12 m, un arbre hybride qui veut ramener la nature au centre-ville : « Cet arbre est un organisme vivant, il va continuer à pousser, on lui souhaite une longue vie », sourient Sylvia Bures et Victor Llanos, qui assurent, partout dans le monde, la construction des créations d’Enric Ruiz Geli : « Il invente des prototypes magnifiques, toujours dans cet esprit de nature combinée avec l’architecture. »
Sept espèces de plantes
Bien que déjà pré-construit à Barcelone, le montage de l’arbre s’est révélé plus complexe que prévu, à cause de la météo. Il a fallu attendre pour installer les plantes : « Y pousseront sept espèces de plantes différentes : du lierre, du laurier, de la véronique, du laurier palme, du pittosporum, des filaires, des arbousiers, décrit l’ingénieur agronome Sylvia Bures. Et, grâce aux 300 mètres de tuyaux cachés dans l’arbre, un ingénieux système de goutte à goutte irriguera les plantes. » Des capteurs placés dans les substrats avertiront des besoins éventuels des plantes. « Même rentrée à Barcelone, je pourrai vérifier que tout se passe bien pour les plantes ! » sourit Sylvia.
Les oiseaux filmés
Trois caméras ont été installées dans l’arbre. Pour filmer les oiseaux qui s’y aventureront. Comme les autres réalisations de Geli, qui accumule les prix internationaux, L’arbre empathique se propose de réinventer la relation entre l’art, la technologie et la nature. Tout un système interactif très surprenant qui va aussi concerner les passagers du tram : « Pour Enric Ruiz Geli, l’architecture est la plate-forme de l’art contemporain, commente l’architecte Victor Llanos. Comme Antoni GaudÍ, sa grande référence, ses œuvres empruntent à l’artisanat, avec beaucoup de couleurs et de lumière. Mais il leur ajoute les connaissances du moment. »
L’arbre empathique de Brest est représentatif de la vision de l’architecte auquel on doit de fabuleuses réalisations, comme le Kidsland de Corée, l’Aquarium de New-York, la tour Markaz au Koweit, le projet Riverside à Moscou… « La lourde architecture du siècle dernier reposait essentiellement sur le béton, auquel elle rendait un culte, explique Enric Ruiz Geli, qui sera à Brest le week-end prochain. La nôtre, légère et durable, rend un culte aux semences, au monde végétal. C’est une architecture qui croît et se nourrit, partie intégrante de l’environnement. »

Autre œuvre d’art en construction, Les Jetées de Didier Faustino sont montées, place de Strasbourg, par les ateliers David. Quant aux Cylindres vibrants d’Hughes Germain, sur le parvis du Lycée Dupuy de Lôme, ils sont installés mais pas encore activés. Tout sera prêt pour l’inauguration du tram, samedi 23 juin."

Seven plant species
Although already pre-constructed in Barcelona, the assembly of the shaft proved more complex than expected, due to the weather. It took time to install the plants: "Seven different plant species will grow there: ivy, bay leaf, speedwell, palm leaf, pittosporum, cordwood, strawberry trees," says agronomist Sylvia Bures. And, thanks to the 300 metres of pipes hidden in the tree, an ingenious drip system will irrigate the plants. "Sensors placed in the substrates will warn of possible plant needs. "Even if I return to Barcelona, I will be able to check that everything is going well for the plants! "smiled Sylvia.
The birds filmed
Three cameras were installed in the tree. To film the birds that will venture there. Like the other works of Geli, who has accumulated international awards, L'arbre empathique aims to reinvent the relationship between art, technology and nature. A very surprising interactive system that will also affect tram passengers: "For Enric Ruiz Geli, architecture is the platform of contemporary art," comments architect Victor Llanos. Like Antoni GaudÍ, his great reference, his works borrow from craftsmanship, with many colours and light. But he adds the knowledge of the moment to them. »
The empathic tree of Brest is representative of the architect's vision, to whom we owe fabulous achievements such as the Kidsland of Korea, the Aquarium of New York, the Markaz Tower in Kuwait, the Riverside project in Moscow..." The heavy architecture of the last century was essentially based on concrete, to which it was a cult, explains Enric Ruiz Geli, who will be in Brest next weekend. Ours, light and durable, is a cult of seeds, of the plant world. It is an architecture that grows and feeds, an integral part of the environment. »

Another work of art under construction, Didier Faustino's Les Jetées were mounted, on the Place de Strasbourg, by the David workshops. As for Hughes Germain's Vibrating Cylinders, on the square in front of the Lycée Dupuy de Lôme, they have been installed but not yet activated. Everything will be ready for the inauguration of the tram on Saturday, June 23rd."
