This city was established prior to Texas becoming a state. It was named after James Henderson, the first governor in Texas. Henderson is located in the heart of east Texas between Dallas, TX and Shreveport, LA.

When Rusk county was created in 1843, Henderson was the county seat. The railroad arrived around 1870 after the Civil War. Discovery of oil in the 1930s caused an economic boom.

There is an Art Deco entrance on this one story building with basement. A covered walkway connects it to the Municipal Court building on the left.
