Since 2011, Wrestedt is the administrative centre of the new administrative unit "Samtgemeinde Aue", which consists of the former "Samtgemeinden" Wrestedt and Bad Bodenteich.
However, the Wrestedt town hall still shows a wooden, carved and colored coat-of-arms of the former "Samtgemeinde Wrestedt" existing from 1997 until 2011.
It shows a lockgate referring to the lock "Uelzen I" at the Elbe Lateral Canal, which is located in the Samtgemeinde area, and a red, jumping unicorn.
