This granite memorial cross stands in front of St. Hildeburgh, the parish church of Hoylake.

The cross is in the form of a Celtic cross and has a sword carved into the support. It stands on a small plinth and has the following inscription.
TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND THE DEAR MEMORY OF THE
MEN OF HOYLAKE
WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR OF 1914-18
THIS CROSS IS DEDICATED BY
THOSE WHO LOVED THEM

"THEY LEFT ALL THAT WAS DEAR TO THEM; ENDURED
HARDNESS, FACED DANGER, AND FINALLY PASSED
OUT OF SIGHT OF MEN BY THE PATH OF DUTY
AND SELF-SACRIFICE."
