Avant le passage du régiment à la réserve en 1970, Esneux était la ville marraine du 4ème bataillon de Carabiniers cyclistes. Depuis, Esneux est dans les faits, la très fidèle quatrième ville marraine du 2ème bataillon de Carabiniers cyclistes.
D'où leur est venu le surnom de "Diables noirs" ? Ce surnom leur fut donné par les Allemands en août 1914: d'une part, à cause de l'uniforme vert sombre des Carabiniers cyclistes du premier Bataillon et d'autre part, en raison de leurs déplacements rapides, leurs interventions par surprise, leur discipline de feu et la précision de leurs tirs ainsi que l'opiniâtreté de leur résistance comme à HALEN, le 12 août 1914

Before the regiment's passage to the reserve in 1970, Esneux was the godmother city of the 4th battalion of Carabiniers cyclistes. Since then, Esneux is in fact the very loyal fourth godmother city of the 2nd battalion of Carabiniers cyclistes.
Where did the nickname "Black Devils" come from? This nickname was given to them by the Germans in August 1914: on the one hand, because of the dark green uniform of the Carabiniers cyclistes of the first Battalion and on the other hand, because of their rapid movements, their interventions by surprise, their discipline of fire and the accuracy of their fire as well as the obstinacy of their resistance as at HALEN, August 12, 1914
