This benchmark is located at the summit of Mokst Butte (elev. 6162 feet). The cap is set on a pipe emplaced in the cinders which make up the 500-foot high cinder cone of Mokst Butte. The cap was set by the USDA Forest Service in 1925. In 1931 an elevation of 6158 was stamped on the cap.
The summit is marked by a cairn of cindery blocks and the cap is located about 10 feet NW of the summit in a smaller cairn. Access to the summit is difficult, no trail and steep slopes but from the summit area there is a spectacular view extending from Llao Rock in Crater Lake National Park (74 miles to the SW) to Mt. Adams in Washington (164 miles to the N).
