Souda is a small town with a population of about 8,500 people. It is the gateway port to the much larger and more historically significant city of Chaina which is to the northeast of Souda. The port is near the British military cemetery which is located at the head of the bay in Souda.
Most visitors will take a bus to nearby Chaina which has a population of 159,300 people. Chaina is famous for its 14th-century Venetian harbor, narrow streets and waterfront restaurants.
