"The bastion of Holland was built in 1674 as a result of the collapse of part of the original city wall protecting an old platform, which supported three windmills known as Collin mills.
It was completed by the engineer Simeon of Garengeau and armed with several guns offered to the city in 1696 by the count of Toulouse, governor of Brittany, in thanks for the contribution of the Malouins in the defense of the country, by the armament in war of their ships for the race.

"Le bastion de la Hollande a été construit en 1674 à la suite de l’effondrement d’une partie du mur de la ville qui protégeait une ancienne plate-forme, qui abritait trois moulins à vent appelés moulins de Collin.

Un magasin construit sous terre du côté de la ville servait de chenil au groupe de chiens de garde qui surveillait chaque nuit à l'extérieur.
Les chiens, qui avaient jusqu'à vingt-quatre ans, étaient des molosses anglais. Ils étaient conduits tous les soirs dans les rues par leurs gardes et tombaient devant la Grande Porte après le dixième coup de la cloche de l'horloge publique appelée Noguette.
Ils ont été ramassés le lendemain matin et ramenés dans leur chenil.
Les chiens qui ne sont pas nourris pendant la journée courraient après ceux qui n'étaient pas revenus à l'heure. Ils pourraient les attaquer dangereusement, ce qui est arrivé en 1772 à un officier de marine qui s'était trop attardé, dit-on, près de sa fiancée, du côté de Saint-Servan.
