The Port of Port Orford, Oregon - Commercial Fishing Ports on Waymarking.com

Port Orford is one of two harbors on the Oregon Coast that has no natural protection from the Pacific Ocean's wrath. Accordingly, to keep their boats safe from the unpredictable waves of the Pacific, Port Orford's fishermen lift the boats out of the water and store them on trailers as seen on my photo in the gallery. The Port has its own website where it tells us "The port is an open-water dock (no natural protection) and boasts the only dry-dock port of the West Coast. The fishing boats are lifted in and out of the water by operated cranes, set on custom-made dollies and parked in rows on the dock. As a result, it is known as a “dolly dock”. The Port is located right on the Oregon coast, just 75 miles north of the California boarder."
