Das Schauspielhaus Nürnberg befindet sich in Sichtweite südlich des Opernhauses. Auf dem Gelände befand sich von 1898 bis 1944 das Hercules-Velodrom, als Radbahn erbaut. Im Jahr 1951 wurde an dieser Stelle ein Armee-Theater der Besatzungstruppen erbaut. Dieses Kino erhielt von Anfang an ein angekoppeltes Bühnenhaus, sodass es 1959 für lediglich 4,7 Millionen Mark umgebaut werden musste. Am 9. September 1959 wurde das Schauspielhaus mit Friedrich Schillers Wallenstein eröffnet. Der große Saal bot für 942 Zuschauer Platz, was sich bald als zu groß erwies.
Von Mai 2008 bis Oktober 2010 erfolgte die dringend notwendige Generalsanierung. Neben der Fassade wurden der Eingangsbereich, das Foyer, die Zuschauerräume und die komplette Bühnentechnik für rund 37 Million Euro erneuert. Mit einem Festakt am 17. Oktober 2010 wurde das sanierte Schauspielhaus feierlich wiedereröffnet. Ein großzügiges Treppenhaus mit Bars und offenen Foyers auf drei Ebenen verbindet nun die 'Kammerspiele' mit 205 Zuschauerplätzen, das 'Schauspielhaus' mit 538 Plätzen und die neue 'BlueBox' (jetzt: 3. Etage), mit bis zu 99 Plätzen.

The Nuremberg Schauspielhaus is in sight south of the opera house. From 1898 to 1944, the Hercules Velodrome was built on the site as a cycle track. In 1951 an army theater of occupation troops was built here. This cinema was from the beginning of a docked stage house, so it had to be rebuilt in 1959 for 4.7 million Marks only. From May 2008 to October 2010, the urgently needed general renovation took place. With a ceremony on 17 October 2010, the refurbished Schauspielhaus was reopened. A spacious staircase with bars and open foyers on three levels now connects the 'Kammerspiele' with 205 seats, the 'Schauspielhaus' with 538 seats and the new 'BlueBox' (now: 3rd floor), with up to 99 seats.
