"Le beffroi est un bâtiment historique de la ville belge de Thuin. Bien qu'historiquement accolé à une église, le clocher est devenu également une tour communale, le seul beffroi de la principauté de Liège.
Il est un des 56 beffrois de Belgique et de France classés depuis 1999 au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
La tour de l'ancienne collégiale Saint-Théodard, construite sans fondations sur la roche schisteuse, est incontestablement médiévale et doit dater de l'époque du plus grand essor de la ville. Plus précisément dans la période entre 1153 et 1164 lors des séjours du prince-évêque Henri de Leez qui décide de faire ériger une tour pour l'église, dont le chapitre date de cette époque.
Les fouilles entreprises sur la place du Chapitre à la fin du XXe siècle, révèlent l'existence de trois édifices religieux successifs: une chapelle probablement carolingienne, une église romane dont le beffroi actuel était le clocher et une église gothique du XVIe siècle construite sur les vestiges de la précédente. Au moment de sa destruction en 1811, pour faire une « place à danser »a, la nef avait une longueur de 20 mètres et une largeur de 18 mètres. Elle se dressait à l'est de la tour sur le côté sud de la place du Chapitre."

"The belfry is a historic building in the Belgian city of Thuin. Although historically attached to a church, the bell tower has also become a communal tower, the only belfry in the Principality of Liège.
It is one of the 56 belfries in Belgium and France classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
The tower of the former collegiate church of Saint-Théodard, built without foundations on shale rock, is undoubtedly medieval and must date from the time of the city's greatest expansion. More precisely in the period between 1153 and 1164 during the stays of Prince-Bishop Henri de Leez who decided to have a tower built for the church, the chapter of which dates back to that time.
The excavations undertaken in the Chapter Square at the end of the 20th century reveal the existence of three successive religious buildings: a chapel probably Carolingian, a Romanesque church whose current belfry was the bell tower and a 16th century Gothic church built on the remains of the previous one. At the time of its destruction in 1811, to make a "place to dance ", the nave was 20 metres long and 18 metres wide. It stood to the east of the tower on the south side of the Chapter Square."
