[FR]L’œuvre du sculpteur montréalais Jacques Bénard représente un jeune couple qui s’enlace en regardant au loin, vers le Fort-Chambly.
La Ville avait lancé un concours provincial pour cette statue et a reçu plusieurs propositions faisant référence au passé militaire de Chambly, mais le maire Denis Lavoie désirait plutôt rendre hommage aux bâtisseurs d’aujourd’hui et de demain.
«Chambly, ce n’est pas juste une histoire militaire, on est plus que ça», affirme Denis Lavoie.
Jacques Bénard abonde dans le même sens. «Quand j’ai reçu l’appel de dossier, je me suis documenté sur l’histoire de Chambly. La statue représente un militaire qui a laissé tomber les armes pour devenir paysan ou agriculteur», explique-t-il.
«On voit sur les deux visages, deux expressions distinctes, ajoute l’artiste. L’homme a un regard soucieux, presqu’inquiet, alors que la femme semble paisible, sereine.»
Il s’agit de la plus grande statue faite par M. Bénard, lui qui a passé près de 800 heures à travailler le granit.

The City had launched a provincial competition for this statue and received several proposals referring to the military past of Chambly, but Mayor Denis Lavoie wanted instead to pay tribute to the builders of today and tomorrow.
"Chambly, it's not just a military story, it's more than that," says Denis Lavoie.
Jacques Bénard abounds in the same direction. "When I received the file call, I documented the history of Chambly. The statue represents a soldier who has given up his weapons to become a peasant or a farmer, "he explains.
"We see on both faces, two distinct expressions, adds the artist. The man has a worried, almost worried look, while the woman seems peaceful, serene. "
This is the largest statue made by Mr. Benard, who spent nearly 800 hours working granite.
