Nestled upstream of the valley of the Koran, at the confluence of the valleys, at the crossroads, Saint Bris des Bois has established itself naturally at the point of meeting and exchange between the inhabitants of the valley and those of the plateau.
In the heart of a forest, very extensive for the region, the village gathered in the past a large population of lumberjacks, sawyers and charbonniers who furrowed the woods.
A ribbon of small trades exploited with method all that could be valorized.
Big futs, we drew the timber reserved in priority to the realization of the frames and to the work of carpentry or cabinet making. the bark of coppice wood produced the Tan used for tanning leathers and hides. then the stripped wood was transformed into coal-burning. With smaller branches, fagots were made: 'Sautenbarques'.
Established in the village, many craftsmen also took advantage of the wood resource. carpenters chaisier sabotiers and galocher course, but also the wheelwright who built and repaired carts and caleches. In our region where the vineyard was omnipresent, we must not forget the cooper who, with the staves debited in the heart of the Limousin oak, made barrels necessary for aging and transporting cognac.
The work of the metal naturally had a complementary place and from dawn to dusk one could hear the hammers ringing on the claws of the blacksmith and the farrier.
From 1918 to 1952 on the railway line connecting Saints to Burie, the station installed in the bujoliers will open the valley to more distant exchanges, contributing to the rapid evolution of lifestyles.

Niché en amont de la vallée du Coran, au confluent des vallons, a la croisée des routes, Saint Bris des Bois s'est établi tout naturellement au point de rencontre et d'échanges entre les habitants de la vallée et ceux du plateau.
Au coeur d un massif forestier, très étendu pour la région, le village rassembla dans le passé une population nombreuse de bucherons, scieurs de long et charbonniers qui sillonnaient les bois.
Une ribanbelle de petits metiers exploitait avec methode tout ce qui pouvait etre valorisé.
Des grands futs, on tirait le bois d oeuvre réservé en priorité à la réalisation des charpentes et aux travaux de menuiserie ou d ébenisterie. l'écorce du bois des taillis produisait le Tan utilisé pour le tannage des cuirs et des peaux. puis le bois dépouillé etait transformé dans les charbonnieres. Avec les branches plus petites, on confectionnait les fagots : 'Sautenbarques".
Etablis dans le bourg, de nombreux artisans tiraient parti eux aussi de la ressource du bois. menuisiers chaisier sabotiers et galocher bien sur, mais également le charron qui construisait et réparait les charrettes et caleches. Dans notre region ou la vigne etait omnipresente, il ne faut pas oublier le tonnelier qui avec les douelles debitées dans le coeur du chene du limousin, fabriquait des barriques necessaires au vieillissement et au transport du cognac.
Le travail du métal avait naturellement une place complementaire et de l'aube au crépuscule on pouvait entendre sonner les martaux sur les encluemes du forgeron et du marechal ferrant.
De 1918 à 1952 sur la ligne de chemin de fer reliant Saints à Burie, la gare installée au bujoliers va ouvrir la vallée aux échanges plus lointains, contribuant ainsi à l'évolution rapide des modes de vie.

The SYMBA (Mixed Syndicate in charge of the Antenne, Soloire, Romède, Koran and Bourru basins) and the CDA of Saintes are charged with the mayors of Saint Bris des Bois and Saint Césaire to proceed with the application of this legal obligation.

Jouez à la pétanque sur l'espace à l'arrière, au calme, entre bois et cours d'eau.

Arpentez les jolis sentiers ombragés et découvrez le cadre naturel qui vous est offert par cet espace classé.

Pour répondre aux directives européennes, nous devons sortir le Coran de l'étang. Le SYMBA (SYndicat Mixte en charge des Bassins Antenne, Soloire, Romède, Coran et Bourru) et la CDA de Saintes sont chargés avec les maires de Saint Bris des Bois et de Saint Césaire de procéder à l'application de cette obligation légale.
