I happened to walked by a building located at 44 Eccles Street and came across this relief above and on each side of the entrance door to the building. I conducted a web search and found that the building was previously occupied by École St Dominique. This provides an explanation for the presence of that relief at that location.
"École St Dominique, 44 Eccles St., Primary school for the francophone Catholic girls of the Lebreton Flats and Rochesterville districts. Many mispronounce the name of this street today; it is Eccles like in "reckless". As controversial or perhaps even more so than the mispronunciation of "Eccles" is the different spellings I have seen for the name of this school. Did the Sisters get it right when they had "St Domic" inscribed on the lintel to the portal of the building as in this photo? I think the answer to this one can be found in the Dominican Sister's "Soeur Sourire's" monster hit song released as the Lebreton Flats were being demolished. (photo courtesy Dianne Chapman-Nichol)"
