Long Description:NRHP Nomination Form"The hipped roof, covered by red tiles, is broken by a series of dormers and handsomely detailed Dutch gables. A deep porch wraps around three sides of the house. Of special merit is the Art Nouveau, or more appropriately, Jugendstil, character of the exterior terra-cotta work, as well as the double staircase. Given the fact that the architect of the house (J.L. Wees) received his professional training in Germany, it is not surprising to find richly detailed Dutch gables and German Art Nouveau details present on the Scott-Roden Mansion. The house is finished in a tawny brick which contrasts with the white, enamelled, terra-cotta detailing of the porches and dormers and the red tile roof."
