Don de la République tchèque à la Ville de Gatineau. Œuvre dévoilée en mai 2002 en présence Son Excellence Vladimir Kotzy, ambassadeur, et de monsieur le maire Yves Ducharme.

L'idée d'ériger un monument aux victimes du communisme est née parmi les anciens prisonniers politiques, membres de l'organisation Club 231 (K-231) en exil. Cette sculpture est une réplique du monument, dévoilé le 2 juillet 1989, qui se trouve au Masaryktown (centre tchécoslovaque à Toronto). Plus qu'une simple pierre tombale jadis refusée aux victimes du régime communiste, il s'agit d'un mémento pour la conscience des meurtriers qui tuent au nom d'une idéologie ainsi qu'une évocation — adressée au monde libre — de la vraie nature du communisme.

Donated by the Czech Republic to Gatineau. The unveiling in May 2002 was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Vladimir Kotzy and Mayor Yves Ducharme.

The idea of erecting a monument to the victims of communism originated with former political prisoners, members of the Club 231 (K-231) organization in exile. This sculpture is a replica of the monument unveiled on July 2, 1989 in Masaryktown (Toronto's Czech Centre). More than a simple headstone—which the victims of the communist regime were once denied—it is a message to the conscience of the murderers who killed in the name of ideology, and a call to the free world to see the true face of communism.
