Au Luxembourg, la consommation en eau potable se situe autour de 120'000 m3 par jour. Cette quantité est assurée pour les deux tiers par l’eau souterraine et pour un tiers du traitement d’eau superficielle.
L’eau souterraine est captée par environ 300 sources et forages alimentés en majeure partie par les eaux des aquifères du Grès du Luxembourg et du Buntsandstein.
L’eau potable provenant d’eau superficielle est produite au barrage d’Esch/Sûre. Cette production exige un traitement complexe, réalisé par le SEBES (Syndicat des Eaux du Barrage d’Esch/Sûre). La capacité maximale de leur station de traitement est de 60'000 m3/jour. A côté du traitement d’eau superficielle, le SEBES exploite l’eau souterraine qu’il capte par forage sur trois sites différents.
L’eau ainsi captée ou traitée, est distribuée par des réservoirs, brise-charges et stations de pompage aux consommateurs. Le nombre des ouvrages de distribution peut être estimé à 500.

In Luxembourg, drinking water consumption is around 120,000 m3 per day. This quantity is ensured for two thirds by the groundwater and for a third of the surface water treatment.
The groundwater is collected by about 300 sources and boreholes fed mainly by the waters of the aquifers of Luxembourg sandstone and Buntsandstein.
Drinking water from surface water is produced at the Esch / Sûre dam. This production requires a complex treatment, realized by the SEBES (Union of the Waters of the Dam of Esch / Sûre). The maximum capacity of their treatment plant is 60,000 m3 / day. Beside the surface water treatment, the SEBES exploits the groundwater which it captures by drilling on three different sites.
The water thus captured or treated, is distributed by tanks, breakers and pumping stations to consumers. The number of distribution works can be estimated at 500.
