Marker affixed to the side of a laboratory building on the campus of WPI. The building, constructed without the use of iron, steel or other conducting metals, was used as an electrical laboratory.

Marker text reads:

Dr. Robert H. Goddard
"Father of Modern Rocketry"
1882 - 1945

Dr. Goddard, a native of Worcester, and a graduate of
Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the Class of 1908,
pioneered early rocked experiments in this building
in the years 1917 and 1918.

Overcoming awesome obstacles, he persevered to develop
the fundamental knowledge and patents upon which modern
rocketry was founded.

This plaque was dedicated on March 15, 1965, the 39th
anniversary of Dr. Goddard's successful firing of a
liquid-fueled rocket in nearby Auburn, Massachusetts.
