The university began in 1953 in Houston as South Texas Bible Institute, upgrading to a four-year college in 1955 and re-named Gulf-Coast Bible College. In 1966, it became a member of the American Association of Bible Colleges and received its full accreditation in 1978. Needing room to expand, it relocated to Oklahoma City in 1983 and was dedicated on 9/5/1985 as Mid-America Bible College. In 2003, the school was renamed again to its present Mid-America Christian University.
The university has Certificate, Bachelor and Masters level degrees - 89 in total, some of which are available on campus, others 100% online, or one night a week evening classes. The degrees range from Business Leadership, Psychology and Counseling, Biology and Math, Christian Ministry, Communications and Criminal Justice, Education, English and Music, to name just a few.
The main educational building are Fozard Hall (named for the current President John D. Fozard), Kennedy Hall, McCuthcheon and Southwest Halls, and the Gaulke Activity Center. The campus lies on the south side of S.W. 119th Street, east of Portland Avenue. The athletic department supports volleyball, basketball and soccer teams.
