Mr. Masters's final resting place is marked by a modern, red granite headstone. "Uncle Sammie" is across the top, complemented by morning glories, and the inscription reads:

"E" is problematical, because his Findagrave page gives "Alexander" as his middle name, corroborated on his death certificate. There may be further error, as the death certificate lists "1870" as his birth year, so "Uncle Sammie" may have been just a few years older than it appears. His listing on the United States Social Security Death Index indicates "1871", and there's that "E" again, so maybe there's some bureaucracy at play. Mr. Masters was born in Millsap, not far from Ballew Springs, and he was a farmer and a long-time resident of Mineral Wells. His death certificate lists Julia Garvin (presumably the one buried in this cemetery) as his mother, with no father listed. Mrs. Garvin's husband was S.G. Garvin, but where "Masters" comes in is not clear. He never married, so to get an affectionate nickname like "Uncle", he must have been popular with someone's family, a fun playmate.
