At some point in the last 200 years, a sapling took root beside this stone marker. Eventually, an old tree nearly knocked over this marker. The old tree is now just a cut-off stump and the stone marker is tilted. Both are easily visible near the sign for the Tip-To-Tip Trail.
For now, this is my final find in the series. Even so, according to the 1913 plan in the View Gallery, stone marker XV should be close by.
On the Rideau Canal, the Burritts Rapids Lock was completed in 1830. Before the canal was built, surveyors from the Ordnance Department placed stone markers to identify ordnance property alongside the Rideau Canal. This stone marker can be identified by the Roman numeral XVI chiseled on the horizontal top face.
