On the Rideau Canal, the Burritts Rapids Lock was completed in 1830. Before the canal was built, surveyors from the Ordnance Department placed stone markers to identify ordnance property alongside the Rideau Canal. This stone marker can be identified by the broad arrow chiseled on a vertical face and the Roman numeral XIV chiseled on the horizontal top face. This marker is north of the trail, appropriately close to the property line at 30 Centre Street.
