The bluestone Barwon River Bridge of three span arches at Winchelsea was erected in 1867 replacing an earlier timber structure dating from 1849. The bridge was officially opened by Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, on 3rd December 1867.
The Barwon River Bridge is still in regular use as a pedestrian and cycle crossing of the river A new reinforced concrete structure is located beside the old bluestone bridge.
