Barriere is not a very big town - even one radio station is an accomplishment for the town. To our knowledge, the town has only one bear, as well.

CHLW 93.1 The Bear is Barriere's very own radio station and officially started broadcasting on the 6th of January 2014 . We have designed and programmed our station to zero in and cater to the those that live in our community and to those that visit Barriere.

The Bear plays a variety of music that spans six decades and our weekly line up of Radio features and Radio shows are community focussed . Due to the well seasoned and extensive broadcast backgrounds of our presenters we offer a big city radio sound with the unique warmth that is found only in a small town like Barriere. We thank you for listening to 93.1 The Bear and we thank you for supporting our sponsors.
From The Bear
CHLW is near the centre of town on the west side of Barriere Town Road, directly south of the local Fire Department, partially hidden behind mature trees. The station is a small, flat roofed rectangular building with CHLW 93.1 THE BEAR lettered on the cornice facing the road.

Not only is the station named "The Bear", but it even has a bear of its own. Out front stands a brown bear, waving at passersby and clenching a Canadian flag in his teeth. Looking for all the world like a chainsaw carving, this guy was carved from a tree (now a stump) which once grew in front of the studio. A Brown Bear, he stands about 6 feet in height, maybe a little taller. His facial expression is reminiscent of some "Smokey the Bear" and some "Yogi Bear" renditions we've seen.
